Available to tours include Mummies, World Cultures, Dinosaurs, Minerals and Biodiversity. The training session will be on Sunday February 5th at 9 a.m. (bright and early!) and will last 2-3 hours. Dear RMC members,

Our Redpath Museum Club elections will be held on Sunday November 27th, at the Redpath Museum, at 1pm.

This is when our new execs will be elected for the 2012 year. Their term will start January 1st, and end the end of next December (therefore you have to be sticking around next year/not graduating yet, as we’ll need you around next year!).

If you are interested in getting more involved with the club, there are a number of great positions to choose from! Below are the different positions and the responsibilities each one entails-

President- responsible for organizing general meetings, facilitating exec meetings, organizing Nuit Blanche Flashlight Tours and the January and September Training Sessions, responsible for the mass listservs, supervising the RMC Research Journal and other projects.

Vice President- supervising the tour guides (making sure there are enough volunteering each Sunday, sending out weekly reminder emails, emailing volunteers when we have an upcoming events we need help with), helping the President with organizing the Training Sessions and the Flashlight tours.

VP Communications- update the facebook page, update the blog, input new emails into the contacts, focus on making club members and McGill students aware about our events

VP Events- act as representative of the club to the McGill Community while organizing monthly events like trips to local museums, walking tours of neighborhoods in Montreal, lecture series, trips to Ottawa or the botanical gardens, book club etc.

Finance Manager/Secretary- organize bake sale/samosa sales, take meeting notes

RMC Research Journal Editor- in charge of getting essays submitted, and putting together the journal with InDesign

We have extended the date that we need the nominations by – Midnight on Friday November 25th. All we need is a quick email from you telling us which position you are interested in. That Sunday, you will have a chance to give a 5 minute speech about why you would like to be elected for for your position.

Also, if you are not ready to run for a position, please feel free to come to the elections anyways to vote for your pick! We’ll be letting you know about possible ideas for the winter, and brainstorm with you about things you’d like to see!

As you may be aware, RMC has been working on putting together a Research Journal over the past year. It’s almost completed and ready to be sent to the printers! All we need now are some photos to accompany the images. 

So we’re going to open this up to you guys! A list of the photographs we need are below. Send us your best photos of the below objects or places, and your photo might be published in the Journal! Make sure that it’s a good quality photo, keep in mind that it will be printed in black and white and it also must be portrait (rather than landscape!).

We will be accepting photo submissions until Thursday, September 30th. The arty-er, or the more creative, the better!

Welcome back to another year with Redpath Museum Club! We’ve got a lot of exciting things planned this year so keep checking the blog, your emails and the facebook page to see what’s happening. Once upon a time,  a rambunctious (and not very modest) young Chinese emperor ordered the construction of an army of terracotta people to guard his would-be mausoleum. Over two millennia later, some of these terracotta soldiers decided to take a walk, and ended up at our own Montreal’s Museum of Fine Arts!

Come join the Redpath Museum Club Saturday, March 26th as we venture out to visit the Montreal Museum of Fine Art‘s new exhibit “The Warrior Emperor and China’s Terracotta Army.” The exhibit features a large array of artifacts from both the Qin and Han dynasties, and is sure to be a treat for all. Tickets will be $10 admission per person (though, there may be an added discount for you wonderful volunteers). Please RSVP by emailing back, as further information regarding the trip will be sent out closer to the 26th. Don’t miss this excellent opportunity to partake in a truly unique cultural and historical experience!

Flashlight Tour Volunteers Needed!

We are going to meet at the side door at 5pm, we’ll have a quick training session, and have a pizza dinner and then the doors open at 8pm and we tour until 1am!

It really is a lot of fun, and by the end of the night you’ll know your tour so well, you could do it blindfolded! But also, if you are interested in helping us out for the night but aren’t comfortable touring – we also need a couple of people to man the ticket booth!

Where can you find waddlin’ penguins, ferocious reptiles and exotic birds all in one place?

On Saturday, February 5th, the Redpath Museum Club will be hosting a group outing to Montreal’s Biodome! Tickets will be $9.00 (which is reduced!) assuming your 18+ and have a student ID (so don’t forget your McGill card!).

We will be there from 1:00pm to whenever we vacate/the Biodome closes. For all interested, please RSVP to redpathmuseumclub@gmail.com, as we need a certain number of people in attendance to obtain our low, nifty rate.

Also, feel free to bring friends as an introduction to the RMC, it should be a fun day for all. Further details will be provided a little closer to the date for everyone interested.

This Sunday is our re-cap session for all of you who may have been trained a year ago, or maybe just back in September and have forgotten/would like to refresh your knowledge of the tours! It’s also for all you lovely new volunteers who have never given a tour before, and want to know what we do as a club, and how you can get involved.

Meet us at the Side Door (the door on the side of the Museum that is closest to MacTavish) of the Redpath Museum at 9:30am. The museum is closed in the morning, so we’ll have the whole museum to ourselves! There will be morning snacks (baked by the wonderful exec team!) and hopefully some coffee as well to wake you up! (It will most likely be over by 12!)

Also, please specify if you are a new volunteer or if you are a returning volunteer.
