2012 Exec Members

President: Jared Ditkowsky

Hey all! My name is Jared Ditkowsky, and I’m a U3 McGilligan studying Anthropology and Molecular Biology. I really enjoy giving Dino tours and pointing out to young visitors the hair strands visible on the third floor’s mummy. Having been a part of this club for a couple years now, I am very excited to be leading it in what looks to be one great year for the RMC.

Vice President: Katie Wilson

I’m a third year student currently pursuing an Honours in History and a minor in Political Science. I’m a huge history enthusiast as well as a crazy dog person, and had a great time on the Redpath Museum Council last year. This year, I’m very excited to Act as VP, and can’t wait to work with club members to make 2012 unforgettable at the museum.

Internal Facilitator: Emily Bamforth

Hi! I’m Emily Bamforth, the RMC’s internal facilitator and contact manager. I’m a PhD student at McGill, with an office in the Redpath Museum (underneath the origami pterosaur, beside the Samurai warrior). I study the paleoecology and paleoclimate of Sothern Saskatchewan: Sara the Triceratops’ homeland. Before I came to McGill, I did a Master’s degree in Ediacaran paleontology, rubbing noses with the world’s oldest animals from more than half a billion years ago. I love fossils, rocks and artifacts so the Redpath Museum is like my natural habitat. I’m very happy to be a part of this wonderful and unique club at McGill!

VP Communication: Émilie Sarrazin

Hello group! My name is Émilie, and I am a U3 Honours student in Anthropology. I am also minoring in Classics. My domain of interest is archaeology, and I deem museology as an essential extension of this profession. I have been giving tours for the Redpath Museum Club for almost three years now. As I am fascinated about Egyptology, the mummy section of the Redpath Museum is my favorite spot!  I also have had the chance to get more direct  professional experience by working for two years in a museum in the north of Montreal. In brief, I love museums. I will be the VP Communication for next year, so I will keep you inform, both in French and English, about what is happening with the club.

VP Events: Robyn Powell

Robyn Powell is a U2 student double majoring in Anthropology and Psychology with the intention of following her dream to Forensic Anthropology, teasing out the stories of the old and dead one bone fragment at a time. She got her first taste of a museum at a young age in Ottawa, at the Canadian Museum of Nature, and has loved them ever since. She hopes that her time as VP Events for the RMC will give her the opportunity to spark that love in others

Finance Manager: Steve Tsai

Hey, I’m Steve, and I’m a psychology student, originally from Vancouver. I love working with the kids at the museum, so naturally my favorite exhibit is the Dinosaur section. This club is crazy fun, and I look forward to working with all of you guys! This year with the club I will be in charge of running fundraising events, so look out for those too!

Research Journal Editor and Chief I: Melissa Mine Alp

Hi!! My name is Melissa Mine Alp, and I am a U3 arts student with a major in Psychology and also the editor in chief at the RMC. I absolutely love giving Mummy tours, especially to young visitors since they are the ones who are most taken with the charm and the mysticism of Ancient Egypt, and come up with the most interesting questions that put a huge smile on your face! The club is so much fun, and I can’t wait to meet with you all really soon!

Research Journal Editor and Chief II: Shakira Warner

Shakira Warner is currently a third year History Major, minoring in Biology. As an international student from the sub-tropical, Atlantic island of Bermuda, she gained interest in museums at an early age through membership and volunteering with the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo. Other than museums, she loves baking, listening to music and summertime ☺.

Member at Large: Ingrid Birker

Ingrid Birker has been responsible for invertebrate fossils and plants at the Redpath Museum for 24 years and is now the Science Outreach Coordinator of Redpath Museum. When you show up for any event, Ingrid will most likely be there and so if you have any questions she’s a great person to ask. Feel free to introduce yourself to her if you see her around!
